Meet Our Club Basketball Coaches
Tim Gebauer
Coach Tim Gebauer (Coach “G”) is from Western New York where he attended West Valley High School and State University of New York at Fredonia (SUNY Fredonia). Tim enjoyed successful playing careers in both high school and college, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fames at both levels.
After his playing career was over, he stayed involved with basketball and became an official for 2 years and then had an opportunity to get into coaching for East Aurora High School in New York. After coaching at the Junior Varsity level for 4 years at East Aurora, he and his family decided to move to Jacksonville, FL in 2005. Tim’s passion for coaching never left and he coached the Junior Varsity at Nease High School from 2014-2022.
Tim is all about developing players and getting the best out of them. He loves to install energy, passion, desire, and love of basketball into each of his players. He wants each player to understand the game both physically and mentally. He’s excited about continuing coaching and developing players at HoopGrind!
Max Baumler
Max Baumler was born in Massachusetts and raised here in Jacksonville, FL. His love for basketball started at an early age and continued to grow as he grew up. He attended Clay High School in Green Cove Springs where he was a team captain on his varsity basketball team. While the opportunity to play at the next level didn’t present itself, his love for the game and the next generation never left. His coaching career started when he began working at his old middle school; where he was able to stay active and learn more about the game. He graduated from University of North Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports management. His opportunity to stay in the game and continue coaching came at Impact Christian Academy where he is in his 2nd year as an assistant on the boys varsity basketball team.
Joe Jones
Coach Joe is originally from Detroit, MI and has 13 years of coaching experience in the Jacksonville area. He is currently serving as the Head JV Basketball for a successful program but also has extensive experience as an AAU coach. In the three years prior to moving up to JV, he led the middle school to three consecutive JCAL Championships.
A hard nose and passionate leader, he is looking forward to instilling fundamentals and love for the game into the younger generation. Training with Coach Joe will be heavily focused on skills that translate directly to the game. He takes pride in being able to communicate effectively with children of all ages and will leave each player better than he found them.
BJ Hayes
Bradley “Bj” Hayes was born and raised in Jacksonville, FL. He graduated from Sandalwood HS where played basketball and received a scholarship to Georgetown University. Bj attended GU for 5 years and was named a captain of the team his last 2 years. He then continued on to play pro basketball for 4 years in different countries in Europe. Now he’s back home looking to help the next generation of hoopers achieve their goals and dreams the same way he did.
Garrett Beagle
Garrett Beagle was born and raised here in Jacksonville and graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in 2020. He then furthered his basketball career at Piedmont University for three years before returning home. He is currently still in school as well as coaching at Atlantic Coast High School for both JV and Varsity.
Garrett has been training with HoopGrind as a student of the game under Coach Ryan since 2018. He takes pride in having a purpose for everything he does and hopes to give back the knowledge that has been poured into him.
He was always known for being a high-energy guy and plans on keeping that with the athletes he works with. After just recently finishing his career as a student-athlete, he is ready to continue his basketball career as a coach and stay on the HoopGrind!
Ben Jones
Coach Ben Jones has 20 years coaching experience. Over those years, he has coached AAU, middle school, high school, and collegiate level basketball. He is the former Head Coach of the Ed White High School boys basketball team where he holds the record for the most wins in school history. He is currently the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Impact Christian Academy. Coach Jones has led his teams to the FHSAA Final Four 5 times during his time as a head coach and has assisted in the development of over 100 collegiate athletes.
